Skulptur

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Bronze cast on a round marble base. Signed (carved) on the reverse of the bronze. - Slight wear, slightly dusty in the recesses, and with a few very minor chips in the marble. Overall, very good condition. An excellent cast with an effective patina and finely textured surface modelling. - This bronze is a meticulous reduction of the monumental sculptural group 'La Folle Chanson' by Jef Lambeaux, the model for which was completed by the artist in October 1899, handed over to the foundryman J. Petermann in March 1901, and erected in Square Ambiorix in Brussels in 1902. The composition depicts a satyr listening to the song of a nymph playing castanets. The rendering of the intertwined bodies is characteristic of the work of Lambeaux, who ranks among the most significant representatives of Belgian Realism and European sculpture of the Fin de Siècle.
