Portrait
Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Privatsammlung, Deutschland.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Charcoal, white highlights, on handmade paper. With the artist's estate stamp. Partially rubbed, with some creases and handling marks, edges bumped, the left edge is somewhat more crushed, loss of the top right corner. Overall still in good condition. - Private collection, Germany. - Created around 1830 within the context of early 19th-century academic drawing practice, this anatomical study demonstrates a precise understanding of the human body, which served as the foundation for artistic training. In this charcoal drawing on handmade paper, Tunica demonstrates a confident mastery of chiaroscuro, through the accentuation of individual sections, the depiction oscillates between analytical insight in the spirit of scientific anatomy and artistic form-finding against the backdrop of the classical ideal.
