Lot 1613 1. Hälfte 19. Jh. Deutsch. Zwei Kinderportraits. Um …

Zwei Kinderportraits. Um 1830. Pastellkreide auf Malkarton. Je 48 x 37 cm. Je in dekorativer Leiste gerahmt.

Portrait

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Pastel on art paper. Each framed in a decorative frame. Edges show minimal wear due to the framing. The reverse shows age-related discolouration and signs of wear. Overall, very good condition. - These two child portraits, conceived as a pair, bear witness to the bourgeois portrait culture of the Biedermeier period, in which a new understanding of family, individuality and private self-representation took shape, and which also viewed children as independent personalities within an increasingly idealised family structure. The iconographic attributes - the flowerpot and the open book - allude to a love of nature, moral purity and education, and, in conjunction with the clear contours and restrained colour palette, articulate the aesthetic ideal of the Biedermeier period.
