Idyllische Winterlandschaft bei Dämmerung. Wohl Frankreich, 18. Jahrhundert. Gouache und Aquarell (ca. 17 x 22,5 cm). Montiert in einer Dokumentenmappe (24,5 x 33 cm). Mit Metallaplikat und Walnussholz (poliert). Verso mit rotem Stoff bezogen.

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Die eingelegte Gouache zeigt eine idyllische Winterlandschaft bei Dämmerung: Ein gewölbter Steinbogenbrücke überspannt einen teilweise zugefrorenen Fluss mit Ufersteinen und kleinen Figuren (zwei Personen im Schnee). Links ragt eine romanische Turmruine aus dem Schnee, umgeben von kahlen Bäumen, rechts erstrecken sich bewaldete Hügel und schneebedeckte Berge unter einem hellblauen Himmel mit rosigen Wolken. Die Technik ist fein aquarellartig mit opaken Gouache-Partien für Schnee und Schatten, ähnlich Werken von Pierre-Antoine Patel dem Jüngeren oder François Boucher oder auch etwas später Louis Lesueur oder Georg Christian Schütz d.Ä. Die Gouache folgt dem klassizistischen Ideal der "Paysage historique" mit fiktiven Ruinen als Staffage, typisch für Patel und Nachfolger im Rokoko. Im Gegensatz zu romantischen Winterbildern von Caspar David Friedrich (z. B. "Abtei im Eichwald") fehlt die melancholische Stimmung - hier dominiert harmonische Dämmerung. Niederländische Winterlandschaften (z. B. Breughel-Nachahmer) teilen Figuren im Schnee, sind aber volkstümlicher. Die Szene ist idealisiert und nicht exakt real, im Stil französischer Klassizisten mit römisch-antiken Ruinenmotiven, die Patel in seinen "italienischen" Landschaften verwendete. Mögliche Inspiration: Alpenregionen wie Tirol oder Savoyen mit ähnlichen Brückenruinen (z. B. Pont du Diable-ähnliche Strukturen).

The gouache painting depicts an idyllic winter landscape at twilight: a curved stone arch bridge spans a partially frozen river with stones on the banks and small figures (two people in the snow). On the left, the ruins of a Romanesque tower rise from the snow, surrounded by bare trees, on the right, wooded hills and snow-capped mountains stretch out beneath a pale blue sky with rosy clouds. The technique is delicate and watercolour-like, with opaque gouache sections for snow and shadows, similar to works by Pierre-Antoine Patel the Younger or François Boucher, or somewhat later by Louis Lesueur or Georg Christian Schütz the Elder. The gouache follows the classical ideal of the 'Paysage historique' with fictional ruins as staffage, typical of Patel and his Rococo successors. In contrast to the Romantic winter scenes of Caspar David Friedrich (e.g. 'Abbey in an Oak Forest'), the melancholic mood is absent - here, a harmonious twilight prevails. Dutch winter landscapes (e.g. by Breughel imitators) feature figures in the snow, but are more folksy. The scene is idealised and not strictly realistic, in the style of French classicists with motifs of ancient Roman ruins, which Patel employed in his "Italian" landscapes. Possible inspiration: Alpine regions such as Tyrol or Savoy with similar bridge ruins (e.g. structures resembling the Pont du Diable).
