Lot 1598 E. Peschl. Schlucht von Beltrán. 1839. …

Schlucht von Beltrán. 1839. Öl auf Leinwand. 70 x 97 cm. Signiert und datiert. In goldfarbener Stuckleiste gerahmt.

Landschaften - Südamerika - Mexiko

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Mexico. - Signed and dated. Framed in gold-coloured stucco moulding. - Partially with noticeable craquelure, a few isolated spots of paint loss and barely noticeable small spots. Overall very good. - This composition is based on a painting by Moritz Rugendal, who undertook several trips to South America in the early 19th century and captured his impressions in paintings and drawings. Here we see the Beltrán Gorge with volcanoes in the background and a small group of farmers with their pack animals moving through the partly wooded, rugged terrain. By contrasting them as small, staffage-like figures with the overwhelming nature, the size and wildness of the South American landscape with its monumental steep slopes and gorges is emphasised.
