Landschaften - Italien

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Privatsammlung, Norddeutschland. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Watercolour and pencil on wove paper. Inscription by another hand on the reverse. - Paper slightly yellowed, partial colour bleed-through on the reverse, more pronounced here. Overall in a very good condition. - The painter and draughtsman Wilhelm Jacob Huber, known for his landscape and architectural views, was one of many artists and scholars who undertook the so-called "Grand Tour" to Italy in the early 19th century. With its ancient sites in Rome and Campania, Italy was considered a central source of inspiration for the classical and romantic artistic conception. With the finest line drawings, he captures the architecture, topographical details and subtle lighting of southern Italy, expressing his generation's specific interest in documentary accuracy and aesthetic idealisation.
