Landschaften

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Privatsammlung, Norddeutschland. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Oil on canvas. Signed and dated. Framed in a gold-coloured frame with floral decoration, here with a typographically inscribed plaque bearing the artist's name. - Delicate, barely noticeable craquelure with a few isolated areas of paint loss, varnish slightly browned, small soiling in the motif. Overall very good. - Private collection, Northern Germany. - In this painting, Gustav Albert Schwarz focuses on the atmospheric dramaturgy and elemental power of nature, translating the landscape into a projection space for mood, sublimity and existential experience. Entirely rooted in the tradition of Romantic landscape painting, the artist's interest in weather phenomena is particularly evident, serving him to stage dynamic compositions: the turbulent sky takes on the central role within the composition and, through differentiated lighting and contrasts, heightens the emotional intensity of the scene.
