Klassische Moderne

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Privatsammlung, Berlin. Insgesamt sehr gut.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Watercolour on wove paper. Signed and titled on the reverse. Mounted under a passe-partout and framed in a narrow Berlin frame behind glass. Paper slightly browned due to age, with a small, barely noticeable pinhole in each corner. Dark spots and traces of a chalk sketch on the reverse. Overall in very good condition. - Private collection, Berlin. - This watercolour by Max Stern is stylistically in line with the New Objectivity and late Impressionist trends of the Weimar period. With nuanced, transparent colours and confident lines, Stern condenses the everyday scene of a woman with a child at a market stall into a lively composition with an atmospheric mood of light and temperature.
