Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Bartsch Bd. XV B.70. Insgesamt gut. Hervorragender, gratiger Druck mit schmalem Rand.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Copper engraving on handmade paper. With typographic inscription. The sheet shows slight browning and small, scattered brown spots due to age. The edge is partly bumped and slightly crushed, and has a small tear. Overall in good condition. An excellent, crisp print with a narrow margin. - After the portrait by Marcello Venusti. - A finely executed copperplate engraving depicting Michelangelo in an oval frame set against a richly ornamented architectural cartouche. The image of the bearded artist with an introspective gaze follows the iconography established in the 16th century and is part of the context of the heroisation of the artist as an 'uomo illustre', a concept shaped by Giorgio Vasari.
