Rückenvergoldung (Vorderdeckel lose, untere Kapitale mit Pgt. alt stabilsiert, an den Ecken und Kanten mit Fehlstellen, beschabt).

Geographie und Reisen – Vollständiges Exemplar der vierten Ausgabe von Tirions Weltatlas, unser Exemplar mit den Karten in teils leuchtendem, sehr pastelligem Altkolorit. - Koeman III, Tir 4, Ss. 126-31 (mit Tafelverzeichnis, unser Exemplar kollationsgleich.) - Vgl. Phillips 4282. - Die erste, um 1740 erschienene Ausgabe mit nur 34 Karten. Neben und nach der vorliegenden vierten erschienen noch zwei weitere, minimal vermehrte Ausgaben mit 111 (1759-84, Tir 5) bzw. 112 Karten (nach 1784, Tir 6). Als Vorbild diente dem niederländische Buchhändler und Verleger Isaak Tirion (1705-65) die brillanten kartographischen Arbeiten des Franzosen Guillaume de l'Isle (1675-1726), wie auf dem Titelblatt vermerkt. Die Karten des Tirion-Atlas "all demonstrate a homogenous character. Most of the maps are based on De l'Isle, as some of them state." (Koeman, S. 126). - Enthalt: Weltkarten (3), Asien (13), Amerika (15), Afrika (5), Niederlande (40), Deutschland (9), Frankreich (5), übriges Europa (18), Nordpol (1), darunter auch Stadtpläne von London, Paris, Moskau u.a. Mit den finalen 15 Amerikakarten. - Einige Kartenblätter mit Einrissen insbesondere im unteren Bereich der Falze, mehrere in den Rändern und verso gering braunfleckig, etwas finger- und leicht schmutzfleckig. Insgesamt ein äußerst sammelwürdiges Exemplar mit sehr gut erhaltenen Karten im vortrefflichen Altkolorit.

Geography and Travel – Complete copy of the fourth edition of Tirion's World Atlas, our copy with the maps in partly lucid, very pastel old coloring. - Koeman III, Tir 4, pp. 126-31 (with list of plates, our copy matches collation.) - Cf. Phillips 4282. - With 112 double-paged, fully hand-colored copperplate engraved maps on 109 sheets, of which 3 are folding, several maps additionally with illustrated cartouches. - The first edition, published around 1740, contained only 34 maps. Besides and after the present fourth edition, two further, slightly enlarged editions appeared with 111 (1759-84, Tir 5) and 112 maps respectively (after 1784, Tir 6). - The Dutch bookseller and publisher Isaac Tirion (1705-65) used the brilliant cartographic works of the Frenchman Guillaume de l'Isle (1675-1726) as a model, as noted on the title page. Overall, an extremely collectible copy with very well-preserved maps in excellent old coloring.
