Naturwissenschaften – Horn & Schenkling 10905 & 10908 (EA) Nissen ZBI, 2040 & 2041 (EA und Reprint). - Seltenes vollständiges und einheitlich gebundenes Exemplar der englischen Ausgabe dieser wunderschön handkolorierten Neuausgabe eines der bedeutendsten und schönsten Werke über exotische Schmetterlinge, das in einer sehr kleinen Auflage (bis zu 50 Exemplaren) hergestellt wurde. Das Werk beschreibt unter anderem Arten aus Ostindien, China, Indien und Australien und erschien in 59 Lieferungen. Es umfasst Hübners vollständige Arbeiten zu exotischen Schmetterlingen, die "Sammlung exotischer Schmetterlinge", erschienen 1806-1824, sowie seine "Zuträge zur Sammlung exotischer Schmetterlinge", erschienen 1818-1837, deren letzter Teil von Carl Geyer herausgegeben wurde. Beide Originalwerke sind außerordentlich selten. Die Neuausgabe dieser Arbeiten über exotische Schmetterlinge, herausgegeben von Philogène Wytsman (1866-1925) und William Forsell Kirby (1844-1912), ist von höchster Qualität. Die Tafeln wurden im Heliogravüreverfahren auf starkem Velinpapier gedruckt und von Künstlerhand nach den Originalen exquisit koloriert, die ihrerseits große Raritäten sind, die Zahl der produzierten Exemplare war minimal. Wytsman veröffentlichte drei Fassungen, eine mit deutschem Text, eine mit englischem und eine mit französischem Text. Angekündigt waren 50 Exemplare, doch wie viele tatsächlich hergestellt wurden, ist ungewiss.

Natural Sciences – Zoology - Entomology - Lepidopterology. - With 491 hand-colored lithographic plates.. - A rare, complete, and uniformly bound copy of the English edition of this beautifully hand-colored new edition of one of the most significant and exquisite works on exotic butterflies, produced in a very small print run (up to 50 copies). The work describes, among other things, species from East India, China, India, and Australia, and was published in 59 installments. It comprises Hübner's complete works on exotic butterflies, the "Collection of Exotic Butterflies," published 1806-1824, as well as his "Supplements to the Collection of Exotic Butterflies," published 1818-1837, the final part of which was edited by Carl Geyer. Both original works are exceptionally rare. The new edition of these works on exotic butterflies, edited by Philogène Wytsman (1866-1925) and William Forsell Kirby (1844-1912), is of the highest quality. The plates were printed using the heliogravure process on heavy-weight vellum paper and exquisitely hand-colored by artists based on the originals, which are themselves great rarities, the number of copies produced was minimal. Wytsman published three versions, one with German text, one with English text, and one with French text. Fifty copies were announced, but it is uncertain how many were actually produced.
