o.T. (Flächenraum). 1988. 35 x 24,8 cm. Aquarell und Gouache auf Vélin. Signiert und datiert. Verso mit Nummer in Bleistift. Mit zarten Atelierspuren und kleinen Löchlein am Rand. Am linken Außrenrand und am oberen Rand mit unregelmäßigen Anriß.

Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Die Arbeit zeigt ein kraftvolles Zusammenspiel von Farbe, Fläche und Geste. Im Zentrum dominiert ein klar abgegrenztes, tiefes Ultramarinblau - eine kompakte, fast samtige Fläche, die ruhig und dicht wirkt. Um dieses Quadrat herum entfaltet sich eine dynamische, farblich explosive Zone: Tropfen, Spritzer und fließende Pinselbewegungen in Rot, Orange, Grün, Violett und Blau scheinen aus dem Zentrum herauszubrechen und in alle Richtungen zu strahlen. Diese Mischung aus klar definierter, geometrischer Form und expressiver, fast chaotischer Umgebung ist typisch für Berners "Farbfeld"-Phase seit den 1970er-Jahren, in der er meditative Farbkonzentrationen mit spontaner Geste verband. Das Werk verbindet somit Stille und Bewegung, Kontrolle und Zufall zu einer spannungsvollen Einheit.

German Post War – Watercolor and gouache on vellum. Signed and dated. With delicate studio marks and small holes at the edge. - The work is a powerful interplay of color, surface, and gesture. At its center dominates a clearly defined, deep ultramarine blue-a compact, almost velvety surface that appears calm and dense. Around this square unfolds a dynamic, explosively colorful zone: drops, splashes, and flowing brushstrokes in red, orange, green, violet, and blue seem to burst out from the center and radiate in all directions. This mixture of clearly defined, geometric form and expressive, almost chaotic surroundings is typical of Berner's "color field" phase since the 1970s, in which he combined meditative color concentrations with spontaneous gestures. The work thus combines stillness and movement, control and chance into a tension-filled unity.
