Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Charakteristisch für Droeses Werk der ausgehenden 1980er Jahre ist die Verbindung von Reduktion und Resonanz: Figuren oder Formen erscheinen wie Schatten, die wie ausgeschnitten, angedeutet und durch Leerstellen definiert wirken. Aus dieser formalen Ökonomie spricht die klare Haltung Droeses gegen das Vergessen, gegen das Glätten historischer Brüche. In dieser Perspektive erscheint die vorliegende Arbeit als ein Versuch, mit bildnerischen Mitteln in jene Tiefenschichten vorzudringen, die kulturelle Narrative strukturieren.

German Post War – Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated. Mounted in spots on support and framed behind glass. - Paper slightly wavy due to technique, some pale studio marks. Overall very good. - Droese's work from the late 1980s is characterised by the combination of reduction and resonance: figures or forms appear like shadows that seem to be cut out, hinted at and defined by empty spaces. This formal economy reflects Droese's clear stance against forgetting, against smoothing over historical ruptures. From this perspective, the present work appears to be an attempt to use pictorial means to penetrate the layers of depth that structure cultural narratives.
