Minimalismus
Amerikanische Moderne – WVZ-Nr. 1987.02. - Sandback Estate No. 3010. - Nicht mehr bei Jahn. - Eines von nur 5 römisch nummerierten Exemplaren. - Hg.
American Modernism – Minimal Art. - Woodcut in black and yellow on Arches Satine (with watermark and drystamp). Signed, dated and numbered. Spot mounted to backing. - Splendid, strong impression of the minimalist composition with wide margins, two sides with deckle edge. - One of only 5 roman numbered copies. - Publ. by Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster. - In the composition, reduced to a few vertical lines in black and yellow, Sandback works with the traditional medium of woodcut, usually associated with expansive coloured surfaces and expressive gestures, and translates it into his characteristic formal language. By transforming the physical resistance of wood into a controlled, minimal form, Sandback conveys his central aim: the line as a space-creating, non-illusionistic element in the two-dimensional surface. The woodcut thus becomes a medium for conceptual reflection on presence, perception and the balance between idea and material.
