Lot 42 Pol Bury. Aus: Des idées et des ombres. …
Geometrical Abstraction - Op Art – Etching with aquatint and embossing on heavy vellum paper. Signed. Magnificent, color-fresh, and striking print with distinctive embossing and strong contrasts. Bury's composition consists of geometric shapes arranged in various shades of black, gray, and sage green on a light background. Two dominant, rectangular shapes frame the picture plane. They are complemented by several circular segments and transparent, superimposed circular shapes, as well as various stripes and areas, resulting in a subtle superimposition and depth effect. The interplay of transparent superimposition and clearly defined areas is characteristic of Bury and emphasizes rhythm and dynamism within the otherwise static shapes. Typical of Bury is his experimentation with balance, tension, and the optical effect created by the precise superimposition and contrast of abstract, geometric shapes. The technique and composition aim at a kind of "silent movement," which unites many of his kinetic sculptures and prints.
