Studie für Fuge in zwei Farben. 1913. Farbradierung auf Richard de Bas-Bütten (mit Wz.). 16 x 23,7 cm (33,5 x 51,9 cm). Mit dem roten Signaturstempel sowie in der Platte signiert und datiert. Mit den Stempeln "Eau-Forte Originale/ gravée par F. Kupka/ datée de 1913" und "Oeuvre/ Certifiée/ Authentique/ Arts works/ Certified/ Authentical/ Paris". Verso punktuell auf Passepartoutrückseite montiert. - In den Außenrändern kaum sichtbar gebräunt, wenige leichte Griff- und punktuelle Knickspuren, auch verso, Papier am linken Rand minimal gewellt, ganz vereinzelter winziger Braunfleck, insgesamt gut. Ganz ausgezeichneter, stellenweise herrlich gratiger und farblich harmonisch abgestimmter Druck mit zartem Plattenton und blind mitdruckender Facette, mit breitem Rand, an drei Seiten mit dem Schöpfrand.

Klassische Moderne – Posthumer Abzug, hrsg. v. J.P. Loriot, Paris. - Bereits ab 1910 findet Kupka als einer der ersten Kunstschaffenden seiner Zeit zur Abstraktion. In immer schematischeren Bildern kreisförmiger Linien entstehen spannungsreiche form- und farbintensive Kompositionen, die eine kraftvoll dynamische Bewegtheit suggerieren. Sie sind das Resultat einer mystischen Vorstellung, in der rhythmisch arrangierte Farben und Formen den Kräften des Kosmos gleichen. Unser Blatt ist in Zusammenhang mit den Studien Kupkas 1912 für sein Schlüsselwerk "Amorpha Fugue en deux couleurs" zu betrachten, das beim Pariser Salon d'Automne desselben Jahres als eines der ersten abstrakten Gemälde öffentlich ausgestellt wird.

With stamps as follows: "Eau-Forte Originale/ gravée par F. Kupka/ datée de 1913" and "Oeuvre/ Certifiée/ Authentique/ Arts works/ Certified/ Authentical/ Paris". Spot-mounted to mat on the verso. - In outer margins hardly browned few slight handling and isolated crease marks, also on the verso, paper hardly buckled in left margin, very isolated tiny brown stain all in all very good. Very superb, partly wonderfully burr-like and colour-balanced impression with delicate plate tone and blindly impressed facet, with wide margin, deckle edge on three sides. - Posthumous print, published by J.P. Loriot, Paris. - As early as 1910 Kupka develops an abstract formal language. In increasingly schematic depictions of circular lines he creates compositions rich in tension, form and colour suggesting a powerful dynamic movement. They are the result of a mystical imagination in which rhythmically arranged colours and forms resemble the forces of the cosmos.
