S.66, S. 136. - Wir danken Frau Ophelia Rehor für die freundlichen Auskünfte. - In vorliegender Arbeit aus seiner Hamburger Schaffenszeit zeigt Carl Lohse eine stilisierte Hafenszene mit typischen Elementen des Expressionismus. Er gliedert die Komposition in horizontale Bildzonen, was insbesondere die Lichtwirkung markant hervortreten lässt. Der Kontrast zwischen dunklem Vordergrund und beleuchteter Stadtkulisse verweist auf Lohses Interesse an dem nächtlichen urbanen Raum, ein Motiv, welches er in dieser Phase mehrfach variierte.

Classical Modernism – Oil on fibreboard. Framed. With slight surface dusting. Overall in well preserved condition. - In this work from his time in Hamburg, Carl Lohse depicts a simplified harbor scene with typical elements of Expressionism. He divides the composition into horizontal sections, which particularly emphasizes the illumination. The contrast between the dark foreground and the brightly lit city scenery reflects Lohse's interest in the urban space at night, a motif he varied repeatedly in this period.
