Ostdeutsche Kunst – In der Bildnisstudie A.S. (Angela Simon) setzt sich Max Uhlig mit dem Porträt als einem zentralem Thema seiner künstlerischen Arbeit auseinander und richtet den Fokus auf den Kopf als Ort individueller Präsenz und geistiger Konzentration. Die Darstellung von Angela Simon entsteht nicht aus plastisch-modellierender Form, sondern aus einem dichten Geflecht farbiger Linienzüge, die sich überlagern und verschränken. Durch diese linearen Schichtungen entsteht ein komplexes Gefüge, in dem sich physiognomische Strukturen andeuten, ohne je in fest umrissene Form überzugehen. Uhlig löst die Linie aus ihrer traditionellen, beschreibenden Funktion und nutzt sie als autonomes, konstitutives Ausdrucksmittel. Das Antlitz der Porträtierten erscheint nicht als statisches Abbild, sondern als ein energetisches Feld, in dem sich die Wahrnehmung des Künstlers materialisiert.
