Österreichische Moderne – Gasteigers Werk kreist um zentrale Fragen der Malerei, insbesondere um deren Prozessualität. Seine bekannteste Werkgruppe bilden die monochromen Bilder mit reliefartigen Oberflächen, bei denen er die Farbe mit einem Kammspachtel pastos aufträgt. In gestischen Bewegungen - vertikal, horizontal oder kreisförmig - wird der Farbauftrag selbst zum Ausdrucksträger von Zeit und Handlung. - Unser Blatt besticht in seiner Farbmaterialität, das Blau erfüllt den Bildraum gestisch, expressiv und von nahezu plastischer Qualität.

Dynamic work with a glossy, fresh paint finish. - Gasteiger's work revolves around key aspects of painting, particularly its processual nature. His best-known group of works consists of monochrome paintings with relief-like surfaces, in which he applies the paint thickly with a comb spatula. In gestural movements-vertical, horizontal, or circular-the application of paint itself becomes an expression of time and action. Our work captivates with its color materiality, the blue fills the pictorial space gesturally, expressively, and with an almost sculptural quality.
