Lot 160 Thomas Virnich. Wolkenkratzer. 1987. …
Wolkenkratzer. 1987.
Fluxus – Floor sculpture, made from a solid, partially painted oak beam with glued linen joints. Telescopically extendable to a length of approx. 150 cm. - With defects, rubbing and soiling inherent to the work. Good overall. - With the floor sculpture "Wolkenkratzer", Thomas Virnich opens up a central approach to his sculptural thinking, which is characterised by a processual, unbounded idea of form. Contrary to what the title suggests, the work rejects heroic verticality or architectural clarity by lying on the ground and seeming to have literally broken out of it. This reversal of urban monumentality manifests Virnich's critical reflection on representation, power and the relationship between body and space.
