Stillleben mit Grauer Flasche. 1956. Öl auf Faserplatte. 64 x 54 cm. Verso mit weiterer Darstellung (Apokalyptischer Reiter). Im Rahmen, dieser verso mit Nachlassstempel. - Mit leichter Oberflächenanstaubung, die Ecken etwas bestoßen, im Rand mit leichtem Farbabrieb und kleinen Abplatzungen. Insgesamt gut erhalten.

Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Herterich I, 5. - Das Stillleben mit Flasche entsteht in einer frühen Werkphase Wellschmidts, in welcher die Auseinandersetzung mit Form, Reduktion und Materialität im Zentrum steht. Der Künstler reduziert das Motiv auf seine elementaren Bestandteile und entwickelt durch die sachliche Darstellung, die gedämpfte Farbpalette und die klare Komposition eine stille Spannung, die bereits seine spätere symbolische Bildsprache anklingen lässt.

In frame, verso with estate stamp. - With slight surface dusting, the corners somewhat bumped, the margins with slight colour abrasion and small flaking. Overall in well preserved condition. - The still life with bottle originates from an early work phase of Wellschmidt, in which the examination of form, reduction and materiality are the focus. The artist reduces the motif to its elementary components and develops a quiet tension through the objective depiction, the muted colour palette and the clear composition, which already hints at his later symbolic pictorial language.
