Deutsche Nachkriegsmoderne – Hennings 91. - Die 1994 entstandene kleinere Variante der Turmspitze mit Flügeln von Karl Menzen nimmt direkten Bezug auf die 1989 geschaffene, großformatige Dachskulptur am Berliner Kaiserdamm. Während die ursprüngliche Arbeit als begehbares Zeichen im Stadtraum fungiert und durch ihre architektonische Einbindung sowie ihre raumgreifende Dimension eine symbolische Verbindung zwischen Gebäude und Himmel schafft, überführt Menzen das Motiv fünf Jahre später in eine reduzierte, autonome Skulptur. In der Kleinform bleibt das zentrale Spannungsverhältnis zwischen vertikaler Geschlossenheit (Turm) und seitlicher Öffnung (Flügel) erhalten, wird jedoch in einem neuen Maßstab erfahrbar: Die Arbeit wirkt nun konzentrierter, fast meditativ, und legt den Fokus stärker auf die konstruktiven und formalen Qualitäten der Skulptur.

German Post War – Brushed stainless steel. - Hennings 91. - The smaller version of the spire with wings by Karl Menzen, created in 1994, makes direct reference to the large-format roof sculpture on Berlin's Kaiserdamm, created in 1989. While the original work functions as a walk-in landmark in the urban space and creates a symbolic connection between the building and the sky through its architectural integration and expansive dimensions, Menzen transformed the motif five years later into a reduced, autonomous sculpture. In the small form, the central tension between vertical closure (tower) and lateral opening (wings) is retained, but can be experienced on a new scale: the work now appears more concentrated, almost meditative, and focuses more strongly on the constructive and formal qualities of the sculpture.
