Theologie und Religionswissenschaften – Sehr seltene Ausgabe der bedeutendsten orthodoxen Übersetzung und Kommentierung der Tora ins Deutsche. - Die fünf Bücher Mose in hebräisch-deutschem Paralleldruck, mit umfänglichem Kommentar von Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808-88), dem damaligen Rabbiner der Israelitischen Religionsgesellschaft in Frankfurt am Main. Hirschs Kommentar basiert auf der akribischen etymologischen Erschließung des Hebräischen, die er als Grundlage zum Verständnis der Tora verstand. Damit grenzte sich der führende Vertreter der "Neo-Orthodoxie" in Deutschland von den reformistischen Tendenzen im liberalen Judentum seiner Zeit und damit dem Mendelssohnschen Geist der Aufklärung ab, was letztlich zu einer Spaltung zwischen den von Hirsch geistig geführten Traditionalisten und den reformorientierten Mitgliedern der Frankfurter Gemeinde führen sollte. - Provenienz: 1. Bildungs-Anstalt für Jüdische Lehrer, Hannover, durchgehend mit dem Stempel dieser Institution. 2. Etikett der "Specialbuchhandlung für jüdische Literatur", Kaufmann, Leipzig, auf den Vorderspiegeln der Bde. 2 u. 4. 3. J. M. Jüdel (gest. 1883), Religionslehrer in Hannover, mit Widmung zweier Schüler (Theodor Wiener, Julius Frensdorff) auf Vorsatz recto, datiert und verortet: "Hannover, 18. April 1881." - Stellenweise, insbesondere die Titeleien und letzten Bll. fingerfleckig, Vorsätze in den Gelenken leimschattig, vorderer Vorsatz von Bd. 1 und beide von Bd. 5 entfernt. - Sh. E. M. Theology and Religious Studies – Very rare first edition of this "the most important German Orthodox Bible translation and commentary" (Gottlieb). - The five books of Moses in a Hebrew and German parallel print, translated and with extensive commentary by Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808-88), then rabbi of the Jewish Religious Community in Frankfurt am Main. Hirsch's commentary is based on a meticulous etymological analysis of Hebrew, which he saw as the basis for understanding the Torah. In this way, the leading representative of 'Neo-Orthodoxy' in Germany distanced himself from the reformist tendencies in liberal Judaism in the Mendelssohn tradition, which ultimately led to a split between the traditionalists led by Hirsch and the reform-oriented members of the Frankfurt community. - Finger stains in places, especially on the title pages and last pages, endpapers with shelf-ewar at joints, front endpaper of vol. 1 and both endpapers of vol. 5 removed. - Extremely rare, currently not available in trade and only copy to trace for us at auctions. - For references and provenances see abobe.
