Maroquin mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel, floral ornamentierten Deckelgold- und Innenkantenfileten, handgenächten Kapitalbändchen, roten Vorsätzen aus Maschinbütten, Kopfgoldschnitt und Lesezeichenband (vereinzelt sehr leicht fleckig, etwas gebräunt).

Abb., für einen vergleichbaren Einband). - Gedichtzykls des tschechischen Autors und Ethnologen Josef Spilka (1899-1986) beinhaltend 27 Texte, die nach europäischen Orten benannt sind und in Verbindung mit dem Titel "Paneuropa" eine Hommage an die gleichnamige 1922 gegründete, erste europäische Einigungsbewegung darstellen. - Gesetzt in einer genauso eleganten wie zeitlosen Romana und gedruckt mit breitem Rand und einseitigem Schöpfrand auf voluminösem Zerkall-Bütten, wirkt das Buch auf den ersten Blick nüchtern. Die Abbildung der surrealistischen Zeichnungen von Karel Svolinský und der dekorative Einband von A. Skoda, der ganz in der Tradition des tschechischen Kubismus steht und dennoch gleichzeitig den Zeitgeschmack des Art Déco aufnimmt, machen das Exmplar aber auch zu einem modernistischen Erlebnis. - Produziert wurde das Buch von Josef Hladky, einem Buchkünstler, Drucker, Verleger und passionierten Bibliophilen, der in Hranice, einer Kleinstadt in der Nähe von Olmütz in Nordmähren, eine Privatpresse betrieb. Hladky spezialisierte sich auf bibliophile Bücher, exklusive Mappenwerke und Exlibris. Er gab auch eine Buchreihe mit dem Titel "Amfora" heraus, deren 24. Band der vorliegende ist. - Der Großteil der Auflage von 200 Exemplaren wurde in beigefarbenen Broschuren mit einfachem schwarzem Umschlagtitel ausgeliefert. Lediglich wenige Exemplare wurden wie das vorliegende im Auftrag von Sammlern mit einem Meisterband versehen. - Ausgezeichnet erhaltenes Exemplar dieses bibliophilen modernistischen Kleinods.

Modern Literature and Art – One of only a few copies from an edition of 200 machine-numbered and author-signed copies bound in a skilfull artist's binding. - With double-sided title page and four full-paged illustrations based on ink drawings in black and partly red by Karel Svolinsky. - Cf. Toman, Kubism, p. 167, no. 6.3.23 (with colour illustrations, for a comparable binding). - A cycle of poems by Czech author and ethnologist Josef Spilka (1899-1986), containing 27 texts named after European locations and, in conjunction with the title 'Paneuropa', paying homage to the first European unification movement of the same name founded in 1922. - Set in an elegant and timeless Roman typeface and printed with wide margins and one-sided deckle edge on voluminous Zerkall laid paper, the book appears sober at first glance. However, the reproduction of Karel Svolinsky's surrealist drawings and the decorative cover by A. Skoda, which is entirely in the tradition of Czech Cubism yet at the same time reflects the contemporary taste for Art Deco, also makes this copy a modernist experience. The book was produced by Josef Hladky, a book artist, printer, publisher and passionate bibliophile who ran a private press in Hranice, a small town near Olomouc in northern Moravia. Hladky specialised in bibliophile books, exclusive portfolios and bookplates. He also published a series of books entitled 'Amfora', of which this is the 24th volume. - Most of the 200 copies were bound in beige paper wrappers with a simple black cover title. Only a few copies, such as this one, were provided with a master binding on behalf of collectors. - An excellently preserved copy of this bibliophile modernist gem.
