Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Raabe/Hannich-B. 24.10. - Lohner-Zenner 1.37a. - Erste Ausgabe, erste Bindequote mit den Texten "Gehirne", "Die Reise", "Die Insel" und "Der Geburtstag". - Die vorliegende, eindeutig erste Ausgabe trägt kurioserweise den Vermerk "zweite Auflage" auf dem losen Titelblatt. - Sehr selten. - Eine fehlende Abdruckgenehmigung des Kurt Wolff Verlages führte dazu, dass die im Februar 1922 von Reiss gedruckte Ausgabe nicht verbreitet werden durfte. Schon ausgelieferte Exemplare der ersten Bindequote wurden aus dem Handel gezogen, eine zweite Bindequote, in der die ursprünglichen Seiten 45-86 entfernt u. teilw. ersetzt wurden, erschien im Dezember 1922. - Beilegend ein Exemplar der zweiten Bindequote (OHLwd.) sowie der Hinweiszettel des Verlages: "Der Verlag Kurt Wolff in München wollte die Verbreitung der Gesammelten Schriften Gottfried Benns verhindern und hatte auch schon einen dahingehenden Gerichtsbeschluß erwirkt, weil die Werke ohne seine Erlaubnis einige Novellen im Umfang von 38 Seiten enthielten, die ihm der Autor vor Jahren für seine damalige 80 Pfennig-Sammlung "Der jüngste Tag" überlassen hatte. Infolgedessen mußten diese Novellen aus den Schriften entfernt werden. An ihre Stelle kamen die Gedichte Chanson (S.46), Schutt (47-51) und die Novelle Diesterweg (70-85). S. 52-69 sind ausgefallen." - Wenige Blätter mit Randläsur. Ein Band oben mit Lichtrand.

Modern Literature and Art – First edition, first binding-batch with the texts "Gehirne", "Die Reise", "Die Insel" and "Der Geburtstag". - The present, clearly first edition, curiously bears the note "second edition" on the loose title page. - Very rare. - A missing reprinting permission of the Kurt Wolff Verlag made it impossible to distribute the edition printed by Reiss in February 1922. Already delivered copies of the first binding batch were withdrawn from the market, a second binding batch, in which the original pages 45-86 were removed and partly replaced, was published in December 1922. - Enclosed: a copy of the second binding batch as well as a publisher's notice warning some novellas amounting to 38 pages had to be removed from this collection because the author had already given them to the publisher Kurt Wolff some year before. In their place came the poems Chanson (p.46), Schutt (47-51) and the novella Diesterweg (70-85). Pp. 52-69 are removed. - Few sheets with marginal tears. One book with shelfwear.
