Dix-sept dessings sur Le Cantique des Cantiques. Mit 17 goldgehöhten Lithographien auf schwarzem Grund in Pochoirmanier, wovon 14 blattfüllend und 3 halbseitig, darunter 9 vom Künstler im Stein signiert oder monogrammiert sowie teils datiert, sowie goldgehöhter Titelvignette, Druckvermerk und Zwischentitel. Paris, La belle Édition (Bernouard), 1914. 52 nn., wovon 45 eins. bedr. Bl. Quer-4°. Halb-Maroquin mit goldgepr., dekor. RTit., mit mehrfarb. Steinmarmorpapier überzogenen Decken, Vorsätzen aus Schneckenmarmorpapier u. Kopfgoldschnitt, eingelegt in Leinenkassette (sign. "V.(éronique) Déro" mit goldgepr. RTit. u. floral gemustertem goldfarbig. Deckenbezug (Vorderdeckel der Kassette mit minimaler Kratzspur, gering berieben, Gelenke mit geringfügiger Bereibung).

Die Deckelillustration der OKartonage eingebunden, ergo vollständig mit allen 14 blattfüllenden Lithographien. - Papier geringfügig gebräunt, sonst tadelloses Exemplar dieses bibliphilen Kleinods.

Modern Literature and Art – One of 175 copies on voluminous Vergé Calendré paper of what is arguably Barbier's most beautiful book. - Monod 2176. - With 17 gilt lithographs on black background in pochoir style, 14 of which are full-paged and 3 half-paged, of which 9 are signed or monogrammed by the artist in stone and some dated, as well as a gilt title vignette, colophon and subheadings. - Magnificent series of striking illustrations by George Barbier for the Song of Solomon, oscillating between his personal style of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The exceptionally colourful lithographs are protected by blind-patterned tissue paper. - In an elegant master binding with slipcase by Véronique Déro. The cover illustration of the original publisher's carboard binding is bound in, making it complete with all 14 full-paged lithographs. - Paper slightly browned, otherwise an impeccable copy of this bibliophile's gem.
