Geschichtswissenschaften – Äußerst selten. - Mit hs. Besitzvermerk verso auf Frontispiz. - Werk über den ersten ausführlich dokumentierten Unfall der Luftfahrtgeschichte. Bei ihrem Versuch den Ärmelkanal von Frankreich aus in einem Heißluftballon zu überqueren stürzten Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rosier und Pierre Romain ab. Der Arzt und spätere Protagonist der französischen Revolution, Jean Paul Marat, beschreibt in diesem Band den tödlichen Absturz und nennt mögliche Ursachen für das Unglück. - Hs. Besitzvermerk auf Frontispiz schlägt durch. Leicht stockfleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten.
History – With an engraved frontispiece and a copperplate. Modern half leather with mounted, gold-stamped backplate and speckled edges. - Extremely rare. - With handwritten ownership note on the verso of the frontispiece. - A work about the first comprehensively documented accident in aviation history. During their attempt to cross the English Channel from France in a hot-air balloon, Jean-François Pilatre de Rosier and Pierre Romain crashed. The physician and later protagonist of the French Revolution, Jean Paul Marat, describes the fatal crash in this volume and names possible causes for the accident. - Handwritten ownership note on the frontispiece is visible. Slightly foxed. Overall, very well preserved.
