Il paragone a Napoleone. Venedig, Tipografia Picotti, 1810. 56 S. 8°. Dunkelgrüner Maroquineinband mit ornamentalen Goldbordüren auf beiden Deckeln, Stehkantenvergoldung, dreiseitigem Goldschnitt und Buntpapiervorsätzen (leicht berieben, die Ecken schwach gestaucht, der Rücken etw. verfärbt).

Geschichtswissenschaften – Die Herkunft der Autorin Catherine Hyde (oder Hyams) Solaris (1755-1844) ist bis heute unklar, sie selbst nennt Lord Hyde Clarendon ihren Vater, ihre Mutter sei die polnische Prinzessin Branizky, die Schwester von Stanislaus Poniatowsky, dem späteren polnischen Königs. Mit 11 Jahren soll sie nach Paris geschickt worden sein, wo ihr musikalisches Talent von Marie Antoinette entdeckt wurde. Bei Ausbruch der Französischen Revolution ging sie nach Venedig, heiratete einen italienischen Edelmann und reiste durch Griechenland und Sizilien. Napoleon konfiszierte ihre italienischen Besitzungen und wegen Druckkostenschulden verbrachte sie einige Zeit in England im Gefängnis. - Ausgabe auf schwerem Papier. - Titelblatt verso alt gestempelt, innen vereinzelt leicht stockfleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten.

History – Dark green morocco binding with rich ornamental gilt borders on both covers, gilt standing edges, gilt edges on three sides and coloured paper endpapers (slightly rubbed, corners slightly bumped, spine somewhat discoloured). - Edition on strong paper. - Title page stamped verso, inside occasionally with light foxing. Altogether very well preserved.
