Geschichtswissenschaften – Seltene, prächtig illustriert Sammlung von philosophischen Maximen, die dem Sonnenkönig gewidmet und für den privaten Umlauf in einer begrenzten Anzahl von Kopien gedruckt wurde. - Ludovico Magno, diese äußerst seltene, ganz gestochen barocke Broschüre, ist eine Übung in Rhetorik und Prinz Louis Charles de la Tour d'Auvergnes (1665-1692) Thesis in der Philosophie, die er am Jesuitenkolleg von Clermont-Ferrand im August 1679 verteidigte. Das Werk ist Ludwig XIV. gewidmet und wurde für das enge Gefolge des Prinzen und den König veröffentlicht. Die aufwendigen emblematischen und historisierenden Bordüren, gestochen von Louis Cossin nach Pierre Paul Sevin, feiern die Triumphe Ludwigs XIV. Die kalligrafischen Texte wurden von René Michault gestochen. Die Titelseite ist oben mit den Wappen von Frankreich und Navarra, unten mit Tour d'Auvergne und Bouillon geschmückt. Das zweite Blatt ist mit einem Porträt Ludwigs XIV. in einem Medaillon geschmückt, das von allegorischen Figuren und Putten gehalten wird. Jede Seite ist einem Triumph des Sonnenkönigs gewidmet, und die philosophischen Texte in der Mitte sind von einem prächtigen Rahmen aus allegorischen Figuren und Emblemen umgeben (viele davon werden Claude-François Menestrier zugeschrieben). - Alte Notizen in Bleistift auf der Vorderseite. Titelblatt und ein weiteres Blatt (De natura et obiecto logicae) innerhalb der Ränder und Platte Marke beschnitten. Zwei Blätter (De quantitate corportis..., De anima) mit einem winzigen Verlust in der oberen Ecke, der nur den Randrahmen betrifft. Ein Blatt (De natura et fine ethicae) mit leichtem Beschnitt innerhalb des Randes, mit sehr geringen Auswirkungen auf den gestochenen Raum. Insgesamt in sehr gutem Zustand.

History – 15 full page copper engravings. Trimmed to the platemark. First Edition. Later brochure with handwritten title. (Spine cracked, edges heavily bumped). - Scarce, splendidly illustrated collection of philosophical maxims, dedicated to the Sun King, and printed for private circulation in a limited number of copies. Ludovico Magno, this extremely scarce, entirely engraved baroque booklet, is an exercise in rhetoric and Prince Louis Charles de la Tour d'Auvergne's (1665-1692) thesis in philosophy, which he defended at the Jesuit College of Clermont-Ferrand in August 1679. The work is dedicated to Louis XIV and it was published for the Prince's close entourage and the King. The elaborate emblematic and historiated borders, engraved by Louis Cossin after Pierre Paul Sevin, are celebrating Louis XIV's triumphs. The calligraphic texts were engraved by René Michault. The title page adorned with the coat of arms' of France and Navarre at the top, Tour d'Auvergne and Bouillon at the bottom. The second leaf is decorated with a portrait of Louis XIV in a medallion held by allegorical figures and putti. Each page is dedicated to a triumph of the Sun King, and the philosophical texts in the middle are surrounded by a magnificent frame of allegorical figures and emblems (many of them are attributed to Claude-François Menestrier). - Old notes in pencil on front panel. Title page and one other leaf (De natura et obiecto logicae) trimmed within margins and plate mark. Two leaves (De quantitate corportis., De anima) with a tiny loss at the upper corner, affecting only the margin frame. One leaf (De natura et fine ethicae) trimmed slightly within the margin, with very minor effect to the engraved space. Overall in very good condition.
