Jahrhunderts – Erste Ausgabe. - Originalausgabe mit dem seltenen Band 3. - ADB 26, S. 304-307 - Diese Sammlung von Briefen, Zeugnissen und Dokumenten zum Leben Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schellings ist von seinem Sohn Karl Friedrich August (1815-1863) sofort nach der Veröffentlichung der Sämtlichen Werke (1856-61) begonnen worden. Die Absicht Karl Friedrich August Schellings war, die Briefe nicht nur zusammenzustellen, sondern sie in eine Biographie einzugliedern. Sein früher Tod vereitelte den Plan, die Arbeit wurde von G.L. Plitt, Theologe in Erlangen, übernommen, der dem biographischen Fragment, das bis ungefähr 1800 reicht, weitere Briefe (bis 1854) folgen ließ. Die immer reger werdende Schelling-Forschung publizierte später viele Teilausgaben des Briefwechsels, und Horst Fuhrmann hat eine wissenschaftliche Edition vorgelegt, die aber nur bis 1809 reicht. Die Plitt`sche Ausgabe ist nach wie vor die einzige Sammlung, die das gesamte Briefwerk Schellings zugänglich macht, sie bleibt auch heute eine unverzichtbare Quelle. - Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt.
