Bucheinbände aus dem XIV.-XIX. Jahrhundert in der Landesibliothek zu Darmstadt. 162 teils farbige Abb. auf 100 Tafeln. 41 S. Leipzig, Hiersemann, 1921. Orig.-Seideneinband mit Rückenschild und Rückenvergoldung.

Buchwesen – Chronologische Übersicht über die Entwicklung des Bucheinbandes vom Spätmittelalter bis ins 18. Jahrhundert. Angefangen bei den Lederschnittbänden des 14. Jahrhunderts, stellt er gotische Inkunabeleinbände aus allen Regionen Europas vor. Es folgen Einbände Jean Groliers und seiner Schule, barocke Präge- und Wappeneinbände, bis hin zu den Kuriosa wie seltenen Lackmalereibänden, bestickten Seideneinbänden und ähnlichem, sowie Verzeichnissen der Buchbinder. Schwerpunkt der hier gezeigten Stücke sind Kölner Einbände, zum großen Teil aus dem Nachlaß des Baron Hüpsch. Die sächsischen Einbände der Hofbuchbinderei des Kurfürsten August stammen aus dem früheren Besitz der nach Darmstadt verheirateten Landgräfin Sophie Eleonore (1609-1671). Mit großartigen Reproduktionen, meist sogar in originaler Größe. - Einband leicht stocking und gering fleckig. - Beeindruckendes Standardwerk in guter Erhaltung.
