Hieronymus, Griechischer Geist aus Basler Pressen 443. - Von Willibald Pirckheimer (1470-1530) übersetzte und von Erasmus von Rotterdam posthum herausgegebene Ausgabe. - "Erasmus verbindet in seiner Widmung einen Nachruf auf den ihm befreundeten Nürnberger Humanisten mit einer Würdigung seiner Gregor-Übersetzungen und einer Rechtfertigung seines Stils. ... Er selber habe immer vor einer Übersetzung Gregors zurückgeschreckt: wegen der Schärfe seines Ausdrucks, der Erhabenheit seiner Stoffe, seiner recht dunklen Anspielungen. Pirckheimer habe sich diese Arbeit erwählt und sei darüber gestorben. Die hier vorliegende Übersetzung, für ihn bestimmt, erhalte er nun als Erinnerungsstück." (F. Hieronymus). Chr.), seit 370 Bischof von Caesarea, "festigte die von Athanasios begründete orthodoxe Lehre und gab der Ostkirche durch Einführung der Liturgie und Aufstellung bestimmter Ordensregeln im Wesentlichen die Formen, die sie bis heute bewahrt hat." VD16 G 3082 - An edition translated by Willibald Pirckheimer (1470-1530) and published posthumously by Erasmus of Rotterdam. - "In his dedication, Erasmus combines an obituary for his friend, the Nuremberg humanist, with an appreciation of his translations of Gregory and a justification of his style." He is the most skillful Christian writer and poet of his time, familiar with all rhetorical stylistic devices." This splendid sheet, which is entirely free of anachronism, gives us a clear picture of how correctly Holbein understood antiquity, but also how harmoniously he knew how to combine the figurative and the ornamental."
