(um 1700). 56, wovon 54 beidseitig mit schwarzer Tinte kalligraphierte, zusätzlich mit einer Illustration (54v) und vereinzelt mit Arabesken versehene Bll., der Textspiegel eingefasst mit einfacher Linie. Kl.-8° (17 x 12,5 cm). Pgmt. der Zeit über Karton mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel und durchgehend gesprenkeltem Schnitt.

Manuskripte und Urkunden – Frühe Abschrift einer verbotenen, erst 1759 posthum erstmals gedruckten anti-jesuitischen Satire. - Das Pamphlet in sechs Gesängen, im Jahr 1677 von dem in und um Arezzo wirkenden Franziskanermönch, Schriftsteller und Astronomen Francesco Moreti (1635-1712) verfasst, erzählt von einem prahlerischen und ambitiösen Jesuiten von ebendort, der allein deshalb predigt, um sich bekannter zu machen und zu bereichern. Der Text ist nicht nur von religions- sondern auch von sprachgeschichtlichem Belang, weil Moreti darin das längste Wort der italienischen Sprache einführt: "precipitevolissimevolmente". - Aufgrund der Polemik gegen den mächtigen Jesuiten-Orden erhielt das Werk lange Zeit kein Privileg, weshalb es schon zu Lebzeiten des Autors in zahlreichen klandestinen Abschriften kursierte. Die vorliegende Abschrift, in deren Kolophon ein Giacomo Filippo Battistelli aus Rimini als Kopist genannt wird, zählt wohl zu den attraktivsten darunter, ist sich doch nicht nur streckenweise vorzüglich kalligraphiert, sondern zusätzlich mit einer Illustration versehen und vereinzelt mit den Text unterstreichenden Arabesken geschmückt. - Die Einbanddecken an den Ecken etwas aufgewellt und insgesamt gering fleckig. Einige Blätter, insbesondere die Vorsätze, erste und letzte Lage an den Rändern finger- und gering stockfleckig, einige Seiten mit kleinen Tintenflecken. Alles in allem ein schmuckes und sammelwürdiges Kuriosum.

Manuscripts – Early copy of a prohibited anti-Jesuit satire, first printed posthumously only in 1759. - The pamphlet in six cantos, written in 1677 by the Franciscan monk, writer and astronomer Francesco Moreti (1635-1712), who was active in and around Arezzo, tells the story of a boastful and ambitious Jesuit from the same place, who preaches solely to become famous and enrich himself. Present text is not only important in terms of religious and social history but also linguistically, as Moreti introduces the longest word in the Italian language: 'precipitevolissimevolmente'. - Due to the polemic against the powerful Jesuit order, the work was not granted a privilege for a long time, which is why it was already circulating in numerous clandestine copies during the author's lifetime. The present copy, in whose colophon a Giacomo Filippo Battistelli from Rimini is named as the copyist or owner, is probably one of the most attractive of these, as it is not only exquisitely calligraphed in places, but also illustrated and occasionally decorated with arabesques that emphasise the text. - The corners of the covers are somewhat widened and overall slightly stained. Some leaves, especially the endpapers, first and last quire finger-stained and slightly foxed in the margins, some pages with small ink stains. All in all an attractive and collectible curiosity.
