Lot 1992 nach Charles Le Brun. Die Familie des Darius vor …

Die Familie des Darius vor Alexander dem Großen. 18. Jh. Gouache auf Pergament, fest auf Pappe aufgezogen. 28 x 35 cm. Unter Glas gerahmt.

Italienisch, 18. Jahrhundert

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. Insgesamt gut. Ausgesprochen feinmalerisch erfasste Szene.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Gouache on vellum, firmly mounted on cardboard. 28 x 35 cm. Framed under glass. - Copy after the painting by Charles Le Brun from around 1660. - The mother of Darius is depicted in the centre, throwing herself at the feet of Alexander the Great and his faithful companion Hephaeston to beg for mercy for her family. The splendid, vivid colors of the scene and the virtuoso lighting are reminiscent of the Venetian Baroque master Andrea Celesti, whose works are characterized in particular by their differentiated draftsmanship and fine illumination. - On verso with handwritten inscription by old hand. - The motif margin with slight rubbing, partially with slight loss of colour, here also with occasional small pinholes, with small streak in the motif. Good overall. Exceptionally finely painted scene.
