Lot 1986 19. Jahrhundert Deutsch. Gaukler. 19. Jh. …

Gaukler. 19. Jh. Sepiazeichnung teils weißgehöht auf Velin. 29,5 x 40 cm. In Punkten auf Unterlage montiert, unter Passepartout.

Genre

Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. Insgesamt sehr gut. Virtuos ausgeleuchtete Szene in ausgesprochen feinzeichnerischer Ausführung.

Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Sepia drawing partly heightened in white on wove paper. 29.5 x 40 cm. Spot-mounted to backing, under mat. Complex scene depicting a group of jugglers resting in an open barn. - In the 19th century, depictions of jugglers enjoyed great popularity, symbolizing the spectacle and, as wandering artists, the longing for freedom. However, the eye-catching, sometimes clownish costumes also often had a deeper, sometimes melancholy connotation. The scene apart from their performance, a moment of calm in the midst of nomadic life, emphasizes the humanity, the vulnerability of the individuals usually hiding behind costumes. - Smoothed vertical crease in the right margin, with short tears and slight rubbing in the margins, partly with pinpoint surface rubbing, on the verso somewhat unevenly browned. Overall in fine condition. Virtuously illuminated scene in exceptionally finely drawn workmanship.
