(ZS 56, 2200). -Von großer Seltenheit, wohl in Lieferungen erschienen, kein Exemplar für uns im internationalen Handel für uns nachweisbar, kein Exemplar auf Auktionen in den letzten 15 Jahren. - Peter Mahyeu (auch Peter Mahysen) war ein angesehener Voltigeur und Reitmeister des späten 18. Jahrhunderts, geboren in Lüttich und ursprünglich als Piqueur an der Hofreitschule von Spanien tätig. Er erlernte die Kunst der Voltige und Jonglage zu Pferde und begründete seine eigene Reitertruppe. Ab etwa 1773 trat er mit großem Erfolg in Wien auf und beeinflusste maßgeblich das Spektakel der modernen zirzensischen Reitkunst im Umfeld der Winterreitschule und des Hetz Theaters. Seine Auftritte am Wiener Hof und seine Widmung eines illustrierten Programmbuches an Kaiser Leopold II. belegen seine Bekanntheit und Wertschätzung. Mahyeu gilt als Modell für die Entwicklung der europäischen Voltige und bildete legendäre Reiter wie Brilloff, Christoph de Bach und Johann Hinné aus, die später selbst zu Stars der Manege wurden. Seine Karriere ist durch wiederholte Engagements in Wien bis in die 1790er Jahre dokumentiert, und er steht als herausragende Figur in der Geschichte des Circus und der Pferdeakrobatik. Die Tafeln zeigen Kunstvolle Sprünge auf und von dem Pferd (z.B. "Grand Saut de la Table"), Jonglierübungen und Balanceakte, ausgeführt auf dem galoppierenden Pferd, Gruppenkraftakte mit mehreren Reitern und Pferden, Kombinationen aus gymnastischer Akrobatik und Dressurvorführungen Szenische Momente, bei denen Reiter und Pferde als dramatische Figuren inszeniert werden, Kontraste zwischen Einzelleistungen und Formationskunst verschiedener Reiter - Teils am rechten Rand knapp beschnitten, Titel etwas gebräunt. Wenige Tafeln mit zarter Bleistiftannotation in Sütterlin am Unterrand, sonst die Tafel sauber. Gutes Exemplar.

Last seen at auction in 2010 with 30 plates (ZS 56, 2200). - Extremely rare, probably published in instalments, no copy traceable for us in international trade, no copy at auctions in the last 15 years. - Peter Mahyeu (also Peter Mahysen) was a renowned vaulting artist and riding master of the late 18th century, born in Liège and originally employed as a piqueur at the Spanish Riding School. He learned the art of vaulting and juggling on horseback and founded his own riding troupe. From around 1773, he performed with great success in Vienna and had a significant influence on the spectacle of modern circus equestrianism in the context of the Winter Riding School and the Hetz Theatre. His performances at the Viennese court and his dedication of an illustrated programme book to Emperor Leopold II are proof of his fame and esteem. Mahyeu is considered a model for the development of European vaulting and trained legendary riders such as Brilloff, Christoph de Bach and Johann Hinné, who later became stars of the circus ring themselves. His career is documented by repeated engagements in Vienna until the 1790s, and he stands out as an outstanding figure in the history of the circus and equestrian acrobatics. The panels show artistic jumps on and off the horse (e.g. 'Grand Saut de la Table'), juggling exercises and balancing acts performed on galloping horses, group feats of strength with several riders and horses, combinations of gymnastic acrobatics and dressage performances, scenic moments in which riders and horses are staged as dramatic figures, contrasts between individual performances and formation artistry by different riders - partially cropped on the right edge, title slightly browned. A few plates with delicate pencil annotations in Sütterlin script on the lower edge, otherwise the plate is clean. Good copy.
