Liber amicorum - Nordrhein-Westfalen
Manuscripts – North Rhine-Westphalia - -Liber amicorum of theology student Ludwig Wilhelm Senger with 109 entries, 7 watercolours and coloured drawings (4 silhouettes) as well as 2 mounted engravings. Contemp. leather with rich gilt embossing (rubbed, bumped, upper joint chipped, corners and edges with small defects in the cover). - Like his father Gerhard Friedrich Senger (1710-1776), Senger was a pastor in Castrop and, from 1792, in Bladenhorst. The entries, most of which were made during Senger's theological studies at the old University of Duisburg, which was dissolved in 1818, are indexed in the appendix and include entries by: as listed above. - Some feature symbols of student fraternities, including the Libertas student lodge of the Amicist Order. The watercolour by C.W. Kuhlenthal (dated September 1786) is particularly noteworthy. It shows students gathered around a table, accompanied by a two-line verse about philistines, thus documenting student and fraternity life at the now largely forgotten university. - Later monogram stamp, a few sheets missing or with cut-outs, fingerstained throughout, partly faded, otherwise in good condition.
