His Royal Highness Prince Alfred. Handgezeichnete Begrüßungsurkunde für Prinz Alfred von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. Englische Handschrift auf Papier, mit prachtvoller Kalligraphie und Zeichnungen. 1867. Federzeichnung über Bleistift, aquarelliert und teils goldgehöht. 60,5 x 45,5 cm. Von drei Mitgliedern der Loge hs. in brauner Tinte unterzeichnet. In Punkten auf Unterlage und unter Passepartout montiert.

Freimaurerei

Manuskripte und Urkunden – Feinste kalligraphische Arbeit in der Auffassung mittelalterlicher Buchmalerei, im Titel zentriert mit dem Auge der Vorsehung mit halbem Strahlenkranz. - Der handschriftliche ist eingefasst von einer Bordüre mit eingezeichneten Freimaurer Symbolen. Oben zentral Zirkel und Winkel, links die Sonne, rechts der Mond, in den unteren Ecken je ein Anker sowie mittig ein Bienenstock. Der Text befindet sich eingebettet zwischen zwei imposanten Säulen, je einen Erd- bzw. Sternglobus tragend. - Prinz Alfred, der zweite Sohn der britischen Königin Victoria und ihres Gemahls Albert von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, war britischer Marineoffizier und ab 1893 regierender Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. Im Januar 1867 brach er als Kapitän der Fregatte HMS Galatea zu einer Weltreise auf. - Mit geglätteter, horizontaler Mittelfalz, etw. gewellt, fleckig und knickspurig, oben links leicht sporfleckig, unten links mit Feuchtigkeitsfleck. Insgesamt wohlerhalten.

Manuscripts – Freemasonry - His Royal Highness Prince Alfred. Hand-drawn certificate of welcome for Prince Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. English manuscript on paper, with splendid calligraphy and drawings. Pen and ink drawing over pencil, watercolor and partly heightened with gold. Signed in brown ink by three members of the lodge. Spot-mounted to backing and under mat. - Finest calligraphic work in the style of medieval book illumination, centered in the title with the Eye of Providence with a half aureole. - The handwritten title is framed by a border with drawn Masonic symbols. Compasses and angles at the top center, the sun on the left, the moon on the right, an anchor in each of the lower corners and a beehive in the middle. The text is embedded between two imposing columns, each carrying a terrestrial or celestial globe. - Prince Alfred, the second son of Queen Victoria and her husband Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, was a British naval officer and, from 1893, the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. In January 1867, he set off on a voyage around the world as captain of the frigate HMS Galatea. - With smoothed, horizontal centerfold, somewhat wavy, stained and creased, slightly mould spotted in the upper left, lower left with moisture stain. Overall well preserved.
