Sammlung von ca. 320 OPhotographien der Berliner Missionsgesellschaft in Deutsch-Ostafrika. Wohl aus dem Nachlass des Missionars Wilhelm Hahn (1872-1960). Vintages. Albumin- u. Silbergelatineabzüge. Meist um 1905-1916 (einige bis 1936). Versch. Formate von ca. 4 x 5 bis 13 x 18 cm, vorw. ca. 9 x 12 cm. Meist (ca. 264, darunter 10 AK) gesteckt, tls. mont. in 3 Alben d. Zt., ca. 56 lose beiliegend. Quer-4°. Kt. d. Zt. mit Kordelbindung (Rücken u. Ränder tls. mit kl. Läsuren).

Photographie - Photographen – Enthält größtenteils Aufnahmen aus den Missionsstationen des ab 1898 erschlossenen "Kingalands", u.a. Bulongwa, Emmaberg/Mufindi, Ikombe, Jacobi, Kidugala, Kyimbila, Langenburg, Lupembe, Maneromango, Manow, Milow, Muakaleli, Neu-Pommern u. Tandala. - Hahn war Schulleiter von Iringa, Lupembe und Kidugala und wurde für sein Wirken im Maji-Maji-Aufstand mit dem Kronenorden ausgezeichnet. - Die häufig verso, tls. recto beschrifteten, teils mit Empfangsvermerk versehenen Aufnahmen zeigen u.a.: Hahn u.a. Missionare und ihre Familien, zahlreiche Indigene (u.a. die "Häuptlinge von Muhanga: Varinde, Lyakeme, Großjumbe Pangamasasi, Malingo, Mwananisengo", "Weiber vom Häuptling Kahemele", "Lupember Damen", "Frauen beim Haarmachen", "Mädchen beim Tanzen", Neu-Christen etc.) in verschiedenen Alltags-Situationen (am Ziegelofen in Milow, beim Hüttenbau, Maisstampfen, bei Pflanzungsarbeiten usw.), Angehörige des Militärapparates (Schutztruppen, Askaris, Garden), Kirchen, Schulen, Wohn- u. Wirtschaftshäuser, einige Landschaftsaufnahmen (Regenwald im Livingstone-Gebirge, Wasserfall bei Kiangala, Oberer Rufiji, Shugulifälle, Panganischnellen), Missionarskollegen (Missionsinspektors Karl Axenfeld (1869-1924), Johanniterschwester Anna Böhlau, Alfred Weltzsch (1870-1946), Superintendent Christian Schumann (1867-1943), Richard Wolff (1866-1940), Ludwig Cleve (1866-1914), Paul Herrmann (1878-1945), Gustav Hübner (1865-1945), Ernst Källner, Hermann Krelle (1878-1961), Martin Priebusch (um 1867 - nach 1916), Wilhelm Meuberg u. Michael Skwirblies (1887-?) u.a. - Dabei ein Gruppenphoto der Missionare der Generalsynode Kidugala 1907 sowie eine an Wilhelm Hahn gerichtete Karte von Superintendent Schumann. - Tls. etw. verblasst u. berieben, gelegentlich Läsuren, sonst insg. gut erhalten. - Einzigartige Dokumentation der Geschichte der Berliner Missionsgesellschaft und deren Wirken in Deutsch-Ostafrika.

Photography – Collection of approx. 320 orig. photographs from the Berlin Mission Society in German East Africa. Probably from the estate of missionary Wilhelm Hahn (1872-1960). Vintages. Albumen and silver gelatin prints. Mostly from around 1905-1916 (some up to 1936). Mostly (approx. 264, incl. 10 postcards) inserted, some mounted in 3 contemp. albums, approx. 56 loose. Contemp. cardboard with cord binding (spine and edges partly with minor defects). Contains mostly photographs from the mission stations of 'Kingaland', which was opened up in 1898, including Bulongwa, Emmaberg/Mufindi, Ikombe, Jacobi, Kidugala, Kyimbila, Langenburg, Lupembe, Maneromango, Manow, Milow, Muakaleli, Neu-Pommern and Tandala. - Hahn was headmaster of Iringa, Lupembe and Kidugala. The photographs, often inscribed on verso, partially on recto, show, among other things: Hahn and other missionaries and their families, numerous indigenous people (incl. the 'chiefs of Muhanga: Varinde, Lyakeme, Grand Jumbe Pangamasasi, Malingo, Mwananisengo', 'women of Chief Kahemele', 'Lupember ladies', 'women doing their hair', 'girls dancing', new Christians, etc.) in various everyday situations (at the brick kiln in Milow, building huts, pounding corn, planting, etc.), members of the military apparatus (protection troops, askaris, guards), churches, schools, residential and farm buildings, some landscape shots (rainforest in the Livingstone Mountains, waterfall near Kiangala, Upper Rufiji, Shuguli Falls, Panganischnellen), fellow missionaries (mission inspector Karl Axenfeld (1869-1924), Johanniter sister Anna Böhlau, Alfred Weltzsch (1870-1946), Superintendent Christian Schumann (1867-1943), Richard Wolff (1866-1940), (1866-1940), Ludwig Cleve (1866-1914), Paul Herrmann (1878-1945), Gustav Hübner (1865-1945), Ernst Källner, Hermann Krelle (1878-1961), Martin Priebusch (around 1867 - after 1916), Wilhelm Meuberg and Michael Skwirblies (1887-?) and others. - Includes a group photo of the missionaries of the General Synod Kidugala 1907 and a card addressed to Wilhelm Hahn from Superintendent Schumann. - Partially faded and rubbed, some occ. defects, otherwise overall good. - Unique documentation of the history of the Berlin Mission Society and its work in German East Africa.
