Professor an der technischen Hochschule in München, hat auf unser Ansuchen . die an unserer Domkirche dahier nothwendig gewordenen Erneuerungs-Bauten übernommen. Wir haben ihm die Leitung derselben im Hinblicke auf seine zahlreichen meisterhaften Architektur-Schöpfungen mit vollstem Vertrauen übertragen. Zum Zeichen dieses unseres Vertrauens ernennen wir den genannten Herrn . zu unserem Dombaumeister von St. Stephan ... - Der Stephansdom zählt zu den bedeutendsten und größten barocken Kirchenbauten Deutschlands und ist bis heute Bischofssitz und Hauptkirche des Bistums Passau. 1895-1898 erhielten die beiden Westtürme unter der Leitung des Dombaumeisters Heinrich Freiherr von Schmidt ihre oktogonalen Aufbauten mit den Glockenstuben und neubarocken Hauben und wurden mit 68 Metern auf die Höhe der Domkuppel erhöht. - Mit zusätzl. Signatur des Sekretärs K. Götz. - Spuren zweifacher Faltung, 1 kl. Quetschfalte, wenige winzige Stockflecken, insg. wohlerhalten.

Manuscripts – Bavaria - Document signed by the Bishop of Passau (1825-1901) for Heinrich Freiherr von Schmidt (1850-1928) appointing him master builder of St. Stephen's Cathedral. With heraldic paper seal. - St. Stephen's Cathedral is one of the most important and largest Baroque church buildings in Germany and remains the seat of the bishop and main church of the Diocese of Passau to this day. Between 1895 and 1898, under the direction of cathedral architect Heinrich Freiherr von Schmidt, the two west towers were given octagonal superstructures with belfries and neo-baroque domes and were raised to a height of 68 metres, matching the height of the cathedral dome. - With additional signature of secretary K. Götz. - Traces of two folds, 1 small crease, a few tiny foxing spots, overall good condition.
