Ausgabe 1734-1735) - Hauptwerk über das Osmanische Reich und die Türkenkriege seit Osman I. (um 1300) bis Ahmed III. (um 1700). Der rumänische Historiker u. moldauische Fürst Cantemir (1673-1723), "bedeutender Gelehrter an der Schwelle zur Frühaufklärung" (Scheel), hatte sich im Wunsch, die Moldau von türkischer Oberhoheit zu befreien, mit Peter I. verbündet und wurde 1711 mit ihm am Pruth besiegt. Danach war er Vertrauter des Zaren im russischen Exil und genoß als Orientalist, Ethnograph und Historiker internationales Ansehen. Seit 1714 war er Mitglied der Berliner Akademie. - Mit kurzer Biographie Cantemirs. - Das lateinische Werk (Historia incrementorum atque decrementorum Aulae Othomanicae) wurde zuerst von Nicholas Tindal aus dem Manuskript übersetzt (London 1734-35: The history of growth and decay of the Othman empire) und von Schmidt nach dem Englischen übertragen. - Mit 22 Sultansbildnissen u. 1 Faltplan von Konstantinopel, ohne das Frontispiz. - Name auf Vorsatz, gutes und sauberes Exemplar.
