Die 1753er-Ausgabe beruht auf der lateinischen Übertragung des polnischen Originals, die vom Humanisten und Juristen Thoma Treter geschaffen wurde. Der Bericht schildert Radziwills Reise nach Palästina mit ausführlichen Darstellungen seiner Eindrücke und Beobachtungen in Jerusalem, Syrien, Ägypten, Kreta, Zypern, Italien und Griechenland. Geography and Travel – Arabia. - Holy Land. - According to Worldcat, there are only a few physical copies in libraries worldwide. - Extremely rare. - The book translated by Thoma Treter and published in several editions, is a famous travelogue about a two-year pilgrimage by the Polish-Lithuanian prince to the Holy Land and other regions between 1582 and 1584. The 1753 edition is based on the Latin translation of the Polish original, which was created by the humanist and jurist Thoma Treter. The account describes Radziwill's journey to Palestine with detailed descriptions of his impressions and observations in Jerusalem, Syria, Egypt, Crete, Cyprus, Italy and Greece. The narrative combines descriptions of the holy sites with vivid impressions of the geography, customs, traditions, and dangers of travelling at that time. Of particular note is his description of the acquisition and transport of two Egyptian mummies, which provides insight into the contemporary treatment of antiquities. Radziwill's work is considered a central text of early modern European pilgrimage and travel literature. It conveys a European view of the eastern Mediterranean at a time of religious tension and at the same time represents the intellectual, political and religious ambitions of the Polish-Lithuanian nobility at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The book thus represents a rich source of information on the history of European travel culture, piety and the international perception of the Middle East during the Renaissance.
