Geographie und Reisen – Dr. Martin Rauschert (Berlin 1934-2025) zählt zu den ersten Unterwasserphotographen der DDR. Zwischen 1955 und 1961 war er als pädagogischer Mitarbeiter und Lehrer tätig. In dieser Zeit begann er mit der Entwicklung eigener Unterwasserkameras. Anfang der 1960er Jahre wechselte er zur Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, wo er sich erfolgreich als Sekretär der Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Unterwasserforschung bewarb und seine Leidenschaft zur beruflichen Aufgabe machen konnte. Innerhalb der Akademie war Dr. Rauschert in mehreren Instituten aktiv, darunter jene für Physikalische Hydrographie, Meereskunde sowie Alte Geschichte und Archäologie. In den 1960er und 1970er Jahren leitete er unterwasserarchäologische Projekte u.a. für den VEB Baugrund im Oberuckersee und am Breiten Luzin. Ab 1964 widmete er sich im Rahmen fischereiwissenschaftlicher Studien dem Verhalten von Fischen. 1974 nahm er als Unterwasserphotograph am Unterwasser-Langzeitexperiment "TSCHERNOMOR '74" in Bulgarien teil. Rauschert überwinterte zweimal in der Antarktis. Während seiner Aufenthalte auf der sowjetischen Forschungsstation Bellingshausen führte er u.a. biologische Forschungen an Lebewesen des Meeresbodens, Tauchgänge, Vogelbeobachtungen sowie umfangreiche Photodokumentationen durch. Aus dem ersten Antarktisaufenthalt (1980-1982) entstand eine zehnteilige TV-Reihe, aus dem zweiten (1984-1986) eine fünfteilige Dokumentation. Nach der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands setzte er seine Arbeit am Alfred-Wegener-Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung fort. - Die Photos zeigen: Arktische Landschaften (darunter ein aus 7 Tlen zus. gesetztes Panorama, 11,5 x 54 cm), Pinguine, Seelöwen, Seehunde, Vögel, Unterwasseraufnahmen von Tauchgängen, Fischen, Seeigeln, Korallen, Schnecken, Seesternen, Seeanemonen, Rauschert an seinem Arbeitsplatz etc. - Vereinzelt geringe Läsuren, insg. wohlerhalten.

Mounted in contemp. album. Cloth (rubbed, boards somewhat loosened). - Dr Martin Rauschert (Berlin 1934-2025) was one of the first underwater photographers in the GDR. Between 1955 and 1961, he worked as an educational assistant and teacher. During this time, he began developing his own underwater cameras. In the early 1960s, he transfered to the "Akademie der Wissenschaften" of the GDR, where he successfully applied for the position of secretary of the Working Group for Underwater Research and was able to turn his passion into his profession. Within the Academy, Dr Rauschert was active in several institutes, including those for physical hydrography, oceanography, ancient history and archaeology. In the 1960s and 1970s, he led underwater archaeological projects for VEB Baugrund in Oberuckersee and Breiten Luzin, among others. From 1964 onwards, he devoted himself to the behaviour of fish as part of fisheries science studies. In 1974, he took part in the long-term underwater experiment 'TSCHERNOMOR '74' in Bulgaria as an underwater photographer. Rauschert spent two winters in Antarctica. During his stays at the Soviet research station Bellingshausen, he conducted biological research on sea floor organisms, went diving, observed birds and compiled extensive photographic documentation, among other things. His first stay in Antarctica (1980-1982) resulted in a ten-part TV series, and his second (1984-1986) in a five-part documentary. After German reunification, he continued his work at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research. The photos show: Arctic landscapes (including a panorama composed of 7 parts), penguins, sea lions, seals, birds, underwater shots from dives, fish, sea urchins, corals, snails, starfish, sea anemones, Rauschert at his workplace, etc. - Occ. minor damage, overall in good condition.
