Mathematiker Ottavio Fabri erdachte "Squadra Mobile" war gleichzeitig ein Zifferblatt, ein geometrisches Quadrat und ein Kompass und konnte für eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Messungen verwendet werden. - Die klar und kontrastreich gestochenen und zusätzlich gratig radierten Kupfer nach feinen Zeichnungen zeigen das Instrument selbst und dessen Anwendung für Gebäude, urbanes Gelände und landschaftliche Staffage. - 13 der Blätter in den Griffecken kleinflächig hinterlegt, Titelbl. mit ausgebleichtem Besitzereintrag, stellenweise fingerfleckig. Insgesamt gut erhaltenes Exemplar dieses mit meisterhaften Radierungen ausgestatteten Werks.

Natural Sciences – Mathematics. - Fourth edition of the magnificently illustrated work on surveying technology, first published in 1598. - For references see above. - The "Squadra Mobile," conceived by the Italian mathematician Ottavio Fabri, was at the same time a dial, a geometrical square and a compass and it could be used for a variety of different types of measurements - The clear, high-contrast engravings, as well as the burr-etched copperplate engravings based on fine drawings, depict the instrument itself and its application to buildings, urban landscapes, and landscape scenery. - 13 of the leaves have small patches in the corners of the handles. The title page has a faded owner's entry, with some finger-staining. Overall, a well-preserved copy of this work, which features masterful etchings.
