Architektur – Erste zweisprachige Ausgabe in Latein und Englisch in der nach dem italienischen Original angefertigten Übersetzung des ersten Teils (Rom, 1693) von Pozzos berühmtem Barockwerk. Die Tafeln und 200 großen Initialen gestochen von John Sturt. Diese Ausgabe enthält die Liste der Abonnenten, die viele berühmte Architekten (u.a. Vanbrugh, Hawksmoor, Lens) nennt. Zwischen 1700 und 1725 wurde Pozzos Buch in sechs europäische Sprachen übersetzt. Die Illustrationen dienten als Vorlagen für Bauten in den spanischen und portugiesischen Kolonien in Lateinamerika und in Indien, aber auch in China und in weiten Teilen Europas. - Blindstempel "Free Public Library Wigan", Frontispiz an den Rändern hinterlegt, Innenfalz verstärkt u. an einigen Bll. angeplatzt (diese tls. gelöst), Blattränder durchgehend angestaubt, gebräunt, stock- u. fingerfleckig, vereinzelt kl. Randeinrisse, sonst insg. gut erhalten.
Architecture – With 101 engraved plates and numerous engraved initials. (2 ff. engr. titles in English and Latin, 2 ff. Dedication, 1 f. Subscribers, 2 ff. Preface, 2 ff. Notes (with the famous engr. plate with the drawing tools), 101 engr. plates (incl. plate LIII/B) with explanatory text, 4 ff. (explanations and index). Contemp. leather with blind stamped centre piece, gilt stamped label to spine, spine gilt (rubbed, cover with defects, spine and corners renewed). - First bilingual edition in Latin and English in the translation of the first part (Rome, 1693) of Pozzo's famous baroque work, made after the Italian original. The plates and 200 large initials engraved by John Sturt. This edition contains the list of subscribers, which names many famous architects (including Vanbrugh, Hawksmoor, Lens). Between 1700 and 1725 Pozzo's book was translated into six European languages. The illustrations served as models for buildings in the Spanish and Portuguese colonies in Latin America and in India, but also in China and in large parts of Europe. - Blind stamp "Free Public Library Wigan", margins of frontispiece backed, inner hinge reinforced and cracking at some sheets, margons dusty, browned, foxed and fingerstained throughout, some single marginal tears, otherwise overall well preserved.
