Das Mädchen mit den Goldaugen. Mit 7 Originalradierungen von Walter Klemm, wovon 1 als Titelvignette, alle vom Künstler mit Bleistift signiert, die Vignette monogrammiert. Weimar, Reiher, 1924. 1 Bl., 101 (4) S., 1 Bl. Gr.-8°. Meistereinband von Otto Dorfner aus rotem Oasenziegenleder über vier Schmuckbünden, mit gold- und schwarzgeprägtem, mittels kalligraphischen und ornamentalen Elementen gestaltetem Deckeltitel, goldgeprägtem Rückentitel, vergoldeten Fileten aus zwei parallelen Linien auf Decken, Rücken und Innenkanten, mehrfarbigen Vorsätzen aus Kristallmarmor sowie Kopfgoldschnitt. Im Kartonschuber d. Zt. (stellenweise mit Lichtrand, minimal bestoßen).

Der satte Druck des von Ernst Hardt aus dem Französischen übertragenen Balzac'schen Textes gesetzt mit schlankem, breitstegigem Satzspiegel und ausgeführt auf festem, breitrandigem Bütten in der Offizin Dietsch & Brückner, Weimar. - Der prächtige Handeinband aus der Weimarer Werkstatt von Otto Dorfner, der für diesen, in seinem eigenen Verlag erschienenen Druck 100 Exemplare in Oasenziegenleder (wie hier vorliegend Ausg. B, Nrn. 51-150) und davor 50 Exemplare in Maroquin (Ausg. A, Nrn. 1-50) gebunden hat. - Dorfner gilt in dieser Schaffensphase als ein "Meister der Linie" (Föhl, S. 53), was er anhand dieser Arbeit beispielhaft beweist. Der Einband besteht aus einer Komposition von sparsam eingesetzten schlanken, sowohl geraden als auch im Bogensatz schwingenden Linien. "Die Funktion des Titels reduziert Dorfner (dabei) radikal auf die Angabe von Dichter und Titel, beide ... aus einer Antiqua gesetzt, beide in die höchste der vier Abteilungen des Rückens versetzt." (Föhl. S. 54). - Von ausgezeichneter Erhaltung, auch dank dem schützenden Schuber.

Modern Literature and Art – With 7 original full-paged etchings by Walter Klemm, 1 of which is the title vignette, all signed in pencil by the artist, the vignette monogrammed. - In a superb artist's binding by Otto Dorfner in red leather over four decorative raised bands, with gilt and black embossed cover title decorated with calligraphic and ornamental elements, gilt embossed spine title, gilt fillets containing of two parallel lines on boards, spine and paste-downs, endpapers in multicoloured crystal marble paste paper as well as gilt top edge. In a cardboard slipcase of the period. - One of 100 copies of edition B (total print run of 150 copies). - The burnished, slightly toned etchings printed by H. Wetteroth, Munich. The bold printing of Balzac's text, translated from the French by Ernst Hardt, slenderly typeset with wide margins and executed on firm laid paper by Dietsch & Brückner, Weimar. - The splendid hand binding from the Weimar workshop of Otto Dorfner, who for this edition bound 100 copies in oasis goatskin (as in the present edition B, nos. 51-150) and 50 copies in maroquin (edition A, nos. 1-50). The book was published in Dorfner's publishing endeavour, the Reiher-Verlag. - Dorfner is considered a 'master of the line' (Föhl, p. 53), which he strikingly exemplifies with present work. The binding consists of a composition of sparingly used slender lines, both straight and curved. "Dorfner radically reduces the function of the title to the indication of the poet and the title, both ... set from an Antiqua, both set in the highest of the four divisions of the spine." (Föhl. p. 54). - In excellent condition, also thanks to the protective slipcase.
