Zoologie

Naturwissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe. - Nissen, ZBI 823. I, 846).

Natural Sciences – First edition. - 9 deliveries in 1 volume (= complete). With 74 (thereof 5 partly col.) engraved plates with 1076 figures. Deliveries irregularly paginated, but complete. Cotemp. ahlf leather with marbled boards and gilt stamped title to spine (one lower joint somewhat cracking, edges rubbed, slightly bumped). - Rare work by the royal Saxon physician, whose "importance for comparative anatomy, cranioscopy and psychology is decidedly greater than for medicine proper" (trans., Hirsch-H. I, 846). Due to the long publication period of almost 30 years, the complete edition is hard to find. The plates, mostly drawn by Carus himself, depict the developmental history of the various animal classes, their skeletal formation and their organ systems. - Inside cover with name label of Prof. W. Vrolik, main title with library stamp and the two following text sheets with blindstamp of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, some foxing and browning due to paper.

Result: 1200 €
