Lot 18 Virgilio Cepari. Vita B. Aloysii Gonzagae …

Vita B. Aloysii Gonzagae religiosi societatis Iesu. Antwerpen, Keerberg, 1609. 13 Bll., 452 S., 4 Bll. 8°. Wappeneinband von Erzherzog Leopold V. (Österreich Tirol). Ldr. d. Zt. mit blindgepr. Mittelstücken und Eckfleurons, dreis. punziertem Goldschnitt, späteres hs. RSchild (stark gebrauchsspurig, teils restaurierte Fehlstellen, spätere Übermalungen der Blindprägung in Goldfarbe).

Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Auf dem vorderen fliegenden Vorsatz mit handschrftlichem Vermerk wonach das Exemplar 1617 als Preis von Leopold V. an Georg Everard Zwanger übergeben wurde, attestiert mit dem Vermerk "ita tesor" von Theodor Reess (Rektor des Jesuitenkollegs in Molsheim, heutiges Elsass). - Heiligenbiographie des Aloisius von Gonzaga, welcher 1605 heilig gesprochen wurde. Verfasst von dem Jesuiten Virgilio Cepari (1564 - 1631). - Titelbl. recto und verso alt gestempelt. Vorsätze sowie erste und letzte Bll. mit leichtem Wurmfraß. Ordentliches Exemplar.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Binding with coat of arms of Leopold V, Archduke of Austria. Cont. leather with blintooled centre pieces and corner fleurons, punched gilt edges, later manusript spine label (strong traces of wear, partly restored missing parts, later overpainting of the blind embossing in gold colour). - Handwritten note on the front flyleaf stating that the copy was given as a prize by Leopold V to Georg Everard Zwanger in 1617, certified with the note "ita tesor" by Theodor Reess (rector of the Jesuit college in Molsheim, today's Alsace). - Biography of the saint Aloisius of Gonzaga, who was canonised in 1605. Written by the Jesuit Virgilio Cepari (1564 - 1631). - Old stamps on recto and verso of title page. Endpapers and first and last leaves with slight worm damage. A neat copy.
