Mai 1981 im Alter von 36 Jahren starb. Der Gottesdienst fand am Donnerstag, den 21. Mai 1981, statt. Er begann von 8.00 bis 9.00 Uhr in der Ethiopian Orthodox Church Holy Trinity (89 Maxfield Avenue, Kingston). Um 11.00 Uhr folgte die Feier in der National Arena. Als Zelebrant ist Seine Eminenz Abouna Yesehaq genannt, Erzbischof der Äthiopisch-Orthodoxen Kirche in der westlichen Hemisphäre. Ihm assistierten Priester und Diakone der Kirche in Jamaika. Der Vermerk nennt Ge'ez, Amharisch und Englisch als Gottesdienstsprachen. Marley war im November 1980 von Yesehaq getauft worden, der Name "Berhane Selassie" geht auf diese Taufe zurück. Nach zeitgenössischen Berichten nahmen rund 6.000 Menschen an der Feier in der National Arena teil. Dabei: Merry Go Round. Programme booklet for the funeral service of the reggae musician, who died on 11 May 1981 at the age of 36. The service took place on Thursday, 21 May 1981. It began from 8.00 to 9.00 a.m. at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Holy Trinity (89 Maxfield Avenue, Kingston). The ceremony at the National Arena followed at 11.00 a.m. The celebrant is named as His Eminence Abouna Yesehaq, Archbishop of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in the Western Hemisphere. He was assisted by priests and deacons of the church in Jamaica. The booklet names Ge'ez, Amharic and English as the languages of the service. Marley had been baptised by Yesehaq in November 1980, and the name "Berhane Selassie" derives from this baptism. According to contemporary reports, around 6,000 people attended the ceremony at the National Arena. Included: Merry Go Round.
