Nietzscheana - Sammlung Dite
Philosophy and Sociology – First edition, first printing of Nietzsche's seminal precursor on postmodern philosophy of the 20th ct. Bound in contemporary half-leather with gilt typographic spine title, boards covered with plover marbled paper and endpapers of block printed paper (spine, head, corners and edges slightly rubbed).- For references see above. - One of only 600 copies. - The text, structured into three essays comprising a total of 28 numbered sections, was announced by Nietzsche as a 'supplement and clarification' (verso of title page) to "Jenseits von Gut und Böse" (1886), as an addendum 'intended to apply the principles described in the book to specific cases.' (Schaberg, p. 204) - Provenance: Franz Josef and Laura Sofie Potthoff, a patrician family and bibliophiles from Bad Kreuznach, with their heraldic ex-libris in chromolithography mounted on the front endpaper and the owners' names handwritten in ink on the title page. - Some sections have been discreetly reinforced in the fold, with isolated instances of barely visible finger-staining. Overall, a very well-preserved, elegantly bound copy of this influential work dissecting moral philosophy, which later proved significant for Foucault, amongst others.
